A member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from Rajya Sabha and former cricketer Harbhajan Singh came into the spotlight after publishing a video on Monday showing two allegedly intoxicated men. Singh claimed that this footage demonstrated the deplorable state of youth in Punjab.
However, representatives of the Punjab police and AAP leaders later stated that the video material presented was actually filmed in Rajasthan.
Harbhajan Singh, a member of the Rajya Sabha from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), published a video showing two young people intoxicated. However, it later emerged that this video was filmed in Rajasthan, not Punjab, leading to widespread criticism of Singh on social media.
Initially, by sharing the video of two young men in turbans, Singh expressed concern over the rising drug use in Punjab. He claimed that 'evil eye' had been cast upon Punjab and criticized the Punjab government. Singh noted that the youth of the region, traditionally associated with progress, bravery, and courage, are now under the influence of drugs, and he called on people to protect Punjab from this problem.
Following the video's publication, leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party began criticizing Harbhajan Singh. The Cabinet Minister of Punjab, Dr. Baljit Kaur, stated that the video did not belong to Punjab but to Shriganganagar in Rajasthan. She accused Singh of trying to tarnish Punjab's image to please his patrons, asserting that he had circulated incorrect footage.
The published video shows two individuals in a state of severe intoxication who can barely stand. Although the BJP MP presented this as a Punjab issue, it turned out the video originated from Shriganganagar in Rajasthan, sparking a wave of trolling on social media. As of now, Harbhajan Singh has not commented on the matter.
