A meeting was held in the city dedicated to preparations for the continental table tennis championship, which will take place in Tashkent this October. Representatives of ITTF Asia, the secretariat of the Asian Table Tennis Confederation, and representatives of the Uzbekistan Table Tennis Federation participated in the event, which gathered at the capital's 'Olympic Village.'
During the discussion, various organizational aspects were reviewed, including preparations for the championship, logistics, transportation issues, as well as media activities and other organizational matters.
Afterward, ITTF Asia representatives inspected the sports complexes in the 'Olympic Village' and the hotels where participant delegations will be accommodated. They highly praised the created conditions, the village infrastructure, and the amenities provided for athletes and official delegations.
ITTF Asia representatives voiced recommendations necessary for holding the Asian Championship in accordance with international standards. It should be recalled that the table tennis competitions are scheduled for October 19–25 of this year.
Uzbek tennis player Kamilla Rahimova advanced to the next round by defeating former world No. 1 Venus Williams in the first round of the WTA 1000 tournament taking place in Toronto. This was reported by the press service of the Uzbekistan Tennis Federation.
The match, which was delayed due to rain, lasted 1 hour and 27 minutes. Rahimova defeated her American opponent in two sets with a score of 6:4, 6:1. Although both players fought evenly in the first set, Rahimova secured the decisive break point, and in the second set, she allowed her opponent only one game.
Currently, 24-year-old Rahimova ranks 82nd in the WTA rankings. Williams, 46 years old, who was added to the tournament via a special invitation, has lost her last 12 matches since July 2025.
