Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have reached an agreement to provide tariff preferences for the transportation of fertilizers and petroleum products through the Kuryk port. Additionally, the port approved preferential tariffs for transporting petroleum products from Uzbekistan to Georgian ports, as reported by O’zbekiston 24.
According to Bakhitkerya Alibekov, Deputy General Director of Kuryk Port LLP, the railway administrations of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have agreed on tariff preferences for the transit of fertilizers and petroleum products through this port.
Kuryk Port is located in the Mangystau region of Kazakhstan and is one of the closest ports to the southern regions of the country and Uzbekistan. Thanks to dredging work carried out in 2024, the ferry processing time at the port has been reduced from 20 to 12 hours, and the carrying capacity of the ferries has increased by 500 tons.
Arman Zhakupov, Executive Director of Aktau International Seaport, noted that in the first half of the year, about 50,000 tons of transit cargo and over 1,700 containers were transported through the port towards Uzbekistan. He also stated that the port is open to Uzbek imports and exports, and container trains can cover up to 1,000 km daily.
Jamaliddinkhuja Abdikarimov, Consul General of Uzbekistan in Aktau, emphasized that the Mangystau region, where four ports are located, plays an important role in ensuring access for Uzbek exports to European markets. The Port of Aktau has also provided temporary warehouse facilities for Uzbek exporters.
The parties are also considering the possibility of further developing container cooperation. Aitkali Nurmagambetov, Director of the Aktau International Container Hub department, spoke about the potential for interaction with Uzbek container terminals, including the Chursai container hub.
The Ports of Aktau and Kuryk are part of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, which connects Central Asia with the Caucasus, Turkey, and Europe. According to the data provided, the volume of Uzbek cargo processed through these two ports has grown by more than 60% in 2025. Aktau is the largest seaport in Kazakhstan with an annual throughput capacity of about 12 million tons. Together with the Kuryk Port, the total capacity of the country's maritime infrastructure is approximately 22 million tons.
