Due to the growing demand for the release of the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) report on the impact of E20 fuel on vehicles compatible with E10, government bodies are studying the possibility of its publication to dispel misconceptions among car users.
According to TOI, since the study was conducted on specific models of two-wheelers and cars, model details may not be disclosed due to the commercial interests of vehicle manufacturers. One official noted that the government referenced this study and its findings when answering questions in Parliament, leading to the opinion that the report should be made publicly available so that people can be assured that E20 fuel does not negatively affect engines.
In June 2021, the Ministry of Petroleum instructed ARAI and IOCL, together with SIAM, to conduct this study. The report was presented in June 2024. The study showed that for two-wheelers meeting the E10 standard, fuel consumption increased by 1–6%, and mass emissions complied with regulatory requirements. For BS-IV standard cars, the increase in fuel consumption was 2–4%, while for BS-VI standard cars, it was 2–3%.
