Veo has introduced the Rover, a new shared electric tricycle designed to offer a more stable alternative for urban mobility. This model began being used in Denver, USA, specifically targeting users who have difficulty adapting to two-wheeled vehicles.

Goal: Expanding access to shared transport

Although electric bikes and scooters are already present in large cities, they still exclude part of the population. For Veo, the main challenge lies in creating suitable solutions for individuals who do not feel safe maintaining balance on two-wheeled vehicles. The Rover is presented as the first shared electric tricycle in North America and started operations in Denver with an initial fleet of 50 units in the city center.

Development and features of the Rover

The development process for this model began in 2024 and involved the collaboration of over 20 organizations, including groups representing seniors, people with disabilities, and local communities, aiming to facilitate micro-mobility use. The Rover was designed for short trips and fulfilling daily tasks, such as grocery shopping or transporting belongings. It features three wheels to ensure greater stability, as well as a seat and an electric system operated by an accelerator, which reduces the physical effort required to ride.

The vehicle's highlighted functionalities include: three wheels for better balance; baskets located at the front and back for carrying items; a capacity to carry up to 45 kg; and a maximum speed set at 16 km/h, all designed for local mobility. Veo also utilized data from internal surveys, where almost a quarter of annual participants reported having some disability, reinforcing the need for more accessible vehicles. Candice Xie, CEO of Veo, described the Rover as the company's most community-involved developed vehicle.

Next steps and operational context

The company plans to monitor the use of the Rover before making any decision about a possible service expansion, using user feedback to identify any necessary adjustments for future operations. The tricycle joins Veo's existing fleet, which already includes electric scooters, cargo bikes, two-person models, and other seated vehicles, totaling approximately 9,000 shared vehicles in Denver. Despite the advantages, the Rover presents challenges, as its size, larger than bikes and scooters, requires careful planning for circulation and parking in busy urban areas. Veo expects that a simpler vehicle to handle will attract people who previously did not find a comfortable option within the shared micro-mobility system.
