Students in Ranchi hold protest march over irregularities in JPSC and JSSC exams

An incident occurred in Ranchi where an ABVP activist named Roshni lost consciousness after being dragged during a demonstration. This situation unfolded against the backdrop of the ongoing student movement in Jharkhand, which has gained momentum in recent days.

Students and young people preparing for work took to the streets to protest allegations of rigging in the JPSC and JSSC exams. The protests began on July 25 when students demanded transparency in entrance examinations.

On Monday, thousands of students marched to the legislative assembly building, breaking several barricades, which led to clashes between the police and demonstrators. The police used water cannons and fired tear gas near the Jagannathpur temple. According to some demonstrators, they sustained injuries, but the Ranchi police reported that 14 police personnel were injured in the clashes.

The consequences of this incident were also evident on Tuesday at the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly. BJP MLAs held heated speeches in the hall protesting the beating of students, forcing Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto to postpone the session twice.

BJP MLAs entered the assembly hall and began chanting slogans against the JMM government. Opposition leader Babalal Marandi demanded an answer from Chief Minister Hemant Soren regarding the alleged mistreatment of students. Furthermore, Congress MP Pradip Yadav stated that elements supported by the BJP provoked violence during peaceful demonstrations.

This issue also reached the parliamentary level, where MLAs from the ruling NDA coalition and the opposition alliance India clashed at the entrance of the parliament. NDA MLAs accused Rahul Gandhi of evading debates, while members of the India alliance demanded a report from Home Minister Amit Shah on the police actions. BJP MLA Kangana Ranaut stated that atrocities are being committed against children in Jharkhand, and that water cannons and tear gas were used against them.

The representatives appointed by Abhiarthi Naiy Manch include Ramavata Mahato, Dinabandhu Mandal, Chandan Kumar, Ravi Shankar, Prema Kumar, Amit Kumar, and Vimala Kumar. These seven individuals will represent the demands of students and examinees during meetings with the Chief Minister. Despite this, the negotiation process between the government and the students remains at an impasse.

The administration requested the names of the delegation from the protesters, after which the students identified seven candidates. Hemant Soren's government had previously set a condition that journalists or lawyers would not be allowed at the meeting. Students insisted on including all eleven of their representatives in the negotiations, and this issue remained an obstacle to the dialogue; however, the names of the delegation have now been agreed upon.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren stated that the government is ready to discuss and wishes to understand the students' problems. He noted that the channel for negotiations has been established, and there is a desire for the discussion to go beyond the Jaypal Singh Munda Stadium, leading to real improvements. The government emphasized that serious changes will be made in the selection process in accordance with the needs and demands of the students.

Discussions are currently underway between officials and protesters at the site of the demonstration. Talks are ongoing with SDM. Protesters demand an impartial investigation into the alleged irregularities in the JPSC and JSSC examinations, as well as ensuring transparency and holding those responsible accountable. The protest has reached its fourteenth day, and many students are on hunger strike. During the protests, one student's condition worsened, and he was taken to the hospital, raising concerns about the health of the fasting students. Now, everyone's attention is focused on the next round of negotiations between the government and the students.
