Sarfaraz Khan returned to India's squad; father shared inspiring thought about hard work

Significant changes have occurred in the Indian national team squad shortly before the start of the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, which begins on August 15th. Young player Sai Sudarshan was dropped from the squad due to injury, and Sarfaraz Khan was included in his place. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officially announced the replacement of Sai Sudarshan with Sarfaraz Khan.

Sai Sudarshan suffered from reactive stress in the big toe of his right foot. He had previously been undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (COE) in Bangalore, and his health had improved. Nevertheless, the BCCI medical team decided not to take risks and kept him under observation, making it impossible for him to participate in the trip to Sri Lanka.

The selection committee relied on Sarfaraz Khan from Mumbai as the replacement for Sudarshan. Sarfaraz will soon arrive in Colombo to join the Indian team. From there, the entire team will travel to Galle for the first Test match.

This presents an excellent opportunity for Sarfaraz Khan to demonstrate his abilities once again. He debuted in Test matches against England in February 2024, scoring fifty runs in both innings of his first match. In six played Test matches, Sarfaraz has scored 371 runs at an average of 37.10, including three half-centuries.

The Indian team, led by Shubman Gill, is set to play two Test matches against Sri Lanka. The first match is scheduled for August 15th in Galle. Prior to this, the Indian team confidently started the tour by winning the preliminary match.

The updated Indian Test squad includes Shubman Gill (captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant (wicketkeeper), Dhruv Jurel (wicketkeeper), Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Manav Sutara, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Barada, Devdhadh Patdikala, Saransh Jain, Akib Nabi, and Sarfaraz Khan.

Young Indian batsman Sai Sudarshan will be unable to participate in the practice match during the tour of Sri Lanka. Sudarshan is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bangalore, recovering from a big toe injury. The medical team is closely monitoring his condition.

Nevertheless, the Indian team management hopes that Sudarshan will fully recover and join the squad before the start of the first Test match. His recovery is progressing in the right direction, and if he receives final medical clearance, he will be available for the series of Tests against Sri Lanka. This was reported by Cricbuzz.

The practice match between India and Sri Lanka is scheduled for August 7 to 9 in Colombo. Initially, this match was supposed to last four days but was later shortened to three days. The Indian team has already arrived in Sri Lanka, and Sudarshan will join the team immediately after full recovery from the injury.

The team management does not want to take risks as the Test series begins on August 15 in Galle. This series is considered extremely important for India, as after missing out on a World Test Championship final spot in the previous cycle, they are aiming to win every match to strengthen their position in the table.

If Sudarshan manages to recover in time, it will add strength to India's batting line-up. The young left-hander has been demonstrating impressive form recently, and the coaching staff views him as a key player in the squad for the series matches.

The first Test will take place from August 15 to 19, 2026, at the International Stadium in Galle, starting at 10:00 Indian time. The second Test will be held from August 23 to 27, 2026, at the Singhalese Sports Club (SSC) in Colombo, also at 10:00 Indian time.

The Indian team has arrived in Sri Lanka ahead of the upcoming two-match Test series. However, 24-year-old left-hander Sai Sudarshan could not join the squad as he is still recovering from a big toe injury.

He sustained the injury during the Vijay Hazare Trophy match and subsequently underwent rehabilitation at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE). The medical team is closely monitoring his recovery, and reports indicate that he has not yet received medical clearance from the BCCI. Who will play at number three for Sri Lanka?

The team management views Sai Sudarshan as a potential player for the No. 3 position in the Test match lineup. Nevertheless, he has not fully cemented this spot, and his performance has been regularly questioned. Despite this, his performance with 81 runs in a single Test match against Afghanistan boosted his confidence.

If he cannot recover fully in time, there is a possibility that Devdhadh Padikkal might get a chance to feature in the starting XI for the first Test.
