Located in the core of the old city of Shangyu, in Shaoxing, this commune addresses the inevitable challenge of revitalizing underutilized assets, a problem faced by governments, developers, and architects.
Those responsible for the project argue that a locality should not be viewed as static or a relic, but rather as a dynamic process of constant creation and rewriting. For this reason, the renovation was planned under the concept of an 'open-source system.'
