Caritas expressed gratitude for the presence and support of the Portuguese community throughout Venezuela, highlighting that this support is very valuable and gratifying, as the Portuguese brought not only commercial activities but also their principles.

Dennis Diaz, coordinator of Caritas in Pueblo Arriba, Naiguatá, La Guaira, reported that the Lusophone community supported the Catholic Church's social action towards those affected. He also mentioned the response and aid provided by the Portuguese Embassy to the population of Pueblo Arriba, an area described as coastal and distant from La Guaira.

The coordinator emphasized that since the earthquakes, they have felt an increase in the presence and support of the Portuguese community, which alleviates the feeling of isolation. He added that many Portuguese people arrived at the port of La Guaira to help, and for this, the organization is very grateful.

Dennis Díaz detailed that Caritas volunteers work to distribute assistance fairly and to identify both people directly affected by the earthquakes and those facing economic difficulties, illnesses, or other pre-existing realities in Venezuela.

He reinforced the role of Caritas as the social action of the Catholic Church, representing the human side of Christ, reaching out to those most in need to assure them that they are not alone and that the institution offers support in times of calamity.

The work of International Medical Assistance (AMI-Portugal) was also appreciated, as it has made daily life more bearable for Venezuelans. According to Diaz, the earthquakes caused numerous emotional and mental problems, such as panic and anxiety, which became evident with the earthquake. AMI has been accompanying and listening to people in the communities, helping them face the disaster with normalcy so they can continue their lives.

The earthquakes that hit Venezuela, especially the coastal state of La Guaira, near Caracas, resulted in at least 6,125 deaths and 1,579 missing persons. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that among the deceased are 138 Portuguese and Lusophone descendants.
