Significant turbulence was observed in the stock market on the first trading day of the week. Despite this, by the end of the day, the BSE Sensex index closed with a gain of 43 points, and Nifty on NSE showed an increase of only 13 points, remaining in the green zone. However, during trading, there was a sharp collapse in the shares of the defense company Bharat Forge, causing panic among investors.
Bharat Forge shares started trading on Monday with a slight increase compared to the previous closing, and this rise continued for some time. Then, the company announced its first-quarter results, after which the shares began to fall and quickly plummeted, losing up to 9 percent during trading.
Announcing the results for the April-June 2026-27 fiscal year, Bharat Forge reported a 5% decrease in its net income compared to the same fiscal year, amounting to 321.40 crore rupees. In the same period last year, the profit was 338.50 crore rupees.
A year-on-year decrease in the company's margin was also noted: it decreased from 27.17% to 24.95%. Nevertheless, Bharat Forge's operating income increased to 2,347.4 crore rupees compared to 2,104.7 crore rupees in the first quarter of last year. Furthermore, on a consolidated basis, the company incurred a loss of 90 crore rupees due to one-time losses in this quarter.
Before the announcement of quarterly results, the company's shares were rising, and during the initial trading on Monday, the price reached 2295 rupees, marking a new 52-week high. The situation seemed stable, but the publication of financial data and information about losses negatively affected investor sentiment.
At 13:30, Bharat Forge shares suddenly began to decline, trading at a price of 2264 rupees, and by 15:00, they collapsed by approximately 9%, reaching the level of 2056 rupees. The sharp drop led to a decrease in the company's market capitalization. Although the decline slowed down by the close of trading, the shares still corrected by 6.76%, ending the trading session at 2112 rupees. The company's market capitalization fell to 1.01 lakh crore rupees.
