Indian cinema veteran filmmaker SS Rajamouli is currently busy shooting his upcoming film Varanasi. The film is being shot in its final stages, and Rajamouli is shooting it in various countries. This film is being described as an Indiana Jones style adventure-thriller, featuring actors like Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran.
August 9 holds special significance for the film's lead actor Mahesh Babu, as he celebrates his 51st birthday on that day. On this occasion, SS Rajamouli shared some scenes from his film Varanasi with his fans as a birthday gift, showing Mahesh Babu standing in the jungles of Africa.
One picture shows Mahesh Babu's side profile with dense African forests and wildlife in the background. The frame looks so magnificent that it appears to be created through VFX, although it is actually a real shot. Rajamouli himself shared the background of this photo, which he described as an extremely special experience.
Rajamouli revealed that these scenes were shot during his Africa schedule. The natural beauty there provided him with an experience that was not possible on a studio set. He mentioned that while shooting in Kilimanjaro and Masai Mara, he was amazed; there were many mornings when he felt that the view before him was so wonderful that even the 1.43:1 IMAX frame could not capture it completely.

Even when the first teaser of Varanasi was released last year, audiences were astonished by the world-building capability of Varanasi. According to several reports, Mahesh Babu's character Rudra attempts to prevent a meteorite from reaching Varanasi in the film. According to the script, a meteorite named Shambhavi is rapidly heading towards the ghat of Varanasi. Rudra is chosen for a very dangerous and thrilling mission.
His task is to travel to various parts of the world to find and bring back an ancient mystical object believed to be related to the universe. Mandakini is also with him on this mission, who is a fearless historian and skilled in marksmanship. Their quest turns into a high-tech science-fiction thriller, taking them through the dense jungles of Africa, the icy lands of Antarctica, and various regions of Europe. During this time, they are shadowed by the technology genius villain Kumbha.
An interesting aspect related to Varanasi is that the film will also include a 25-30 minute Ramayana sequence, in which Mahesh Babu plays the role of Lord Rama, which Rajamouli himself revealed. The film Varanasi will be released next year on April 7th and is being shot for IMAX and will be screened in the same format.
