Hunter Biden, Joe Biden's son, reported that his father's health condition has worsened. The former US president had been diagnosed with prostate cancer the previous year.
This update was shared on Friday during an interview given by Hunter Biden to the BBC's Newsnight program. He expressed emotion while stating: 'Cancer is very difficult. It is very sad to see,' and added that 'the cancer has spread, metastasized to the bones and not only. It is quite painful and very debilitating.'
Despite the illness, Hunter highlighted the former president's resilience, mentioning that 'I wish my father could complain more.' He reinforced Joe Biden's paternal value, affirming: 'My father is the center of the family. He is the best father, best husband, best grandfather.'
During the same conversation, he addressed the presidential debate held in July 2024, where Joe Biden, then US president and Democratic candidate, confronted Donald Trump, Republican candidate. Hunter related being shocked by the debate, as he suspected something was wrong, attributing his father's poor performance to physical exhaustion caused by long travels.
Subsequently, Biden received a prostate cancer diagnosis, leading Hunter to question whether the disease was already present and if it could be affecting his father at that time.
It is recalled that Joe Biden was diagnosed with prostate cancer in May of last year. At that time, it was his own cabinet that communicated the diagnosis, indicating that the disease had already spread. Biden left the White House in January, becoming the oldest American president to finish a term. During his presidency, concerns arose about his ability to continue in office due to age and health status.
The Democratic former president withdrew from the re-election race in mid-2024, supporting his vice-president, Kamala Harris, whose candidacy was surpassed by Donald Trump. In early 2024, Biden's private physician certified his fitness to remain in office after a physical examination.
