The Uzbekistan Cultural Heritage Agency commented on reports circulating on social media regarding the condition of the Chodra Hovli complex in the Khiva region, Khorezm province. The Agency stated that this site is under state protection and underwent large-scale restoration between 2022 and 2023.
According to the statement, the restoration work was carried out by the Khiva Regional Restoration Center at the Agency's request and funded from the state budget. The main focus of the restoration work was on preserving the historical and architectural appearance of the monument, as well as maintaining traditional construction methods.
The work included strengthening and repairing iwan and staircases, covering exterior walls with traditional clay plaster, and finishing interiors with ganch. The Agency specified that modern construction solutions were applied only where absolutely necessary for the maximum preservation of the complex's historical appearance.
Furthermore, the adjacent territory was landscaped: pedestrian paths were established, and a night lighting system was installed for visitors. The Agency emphasized that efforts to preserve and promote the complex will continue, including plans to develop tourist infrastructure around the monument and attract both local and foreign tourists.
It was also noted that the Chodra Hovli complex was built in 1871 as a summer residence for the Khiva khans. The name of the complex derives from a shortened form of the Persian word 'chordara,' where 'chor' means 'four,' and 'dara' means 'steep ravine' or 'canyon.'
The Chief Administrator of Ladakh, Vinay Kumar Saxena, announced 23 historical sites in the region as 'protected monuments' on Thursday.
This decision is aimed at ensuring legal protection for the rich archaeological, historical, and cultural heritage of the Union Territory (UT).
One of these 23 historical places declared as 'Protected Monuments' is a cave.
