Authorities conducted the repatriation of 59 illegal foreign citizens from the province of Tete. Among those detained are 57 citizens of Ethiopia and two citizens of Malawi.
These individuals illegally entered the country through border areas adjacent to Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, according to a representative of the Provincial Directorate of the National Migration Service in Tete.
According to José Xavier, the foreign citizens were discovered during inspection activities in areas located near the borders with these neighboring states. The official stated that after completing all necessary procedures with other structures, the day of their return arrived.
Xavier appealed to local communities to cooperate with the authorities and report the presence of foreigners in an illegal status in the region to combat illegal migration. He also urged foreigners to legalize their status in Mozambique.
Previously, on July 30, the President of Mozambique, Daniel Chapo, instructed the National Migration Service to strengthen control over migration and the fight against illegal immigration at border posts, using modern technologies and ensuring continuous training for military personnel.
Mozambique, which has extensive and porous borders with six Southern African countries, including the three mentioned earlier—Tanzania, South Africa, and Eswatini—faces significant difficulties in controlling unauthorized entry.
