In Amman, Uzbekistan and Jordan signed a memorandum of understanding concerning the exchange of plant and animal genetic resources, as well as agricultural research. This was reported by Dunyo News Agency, citing the Jordanian news agency Al Mashhad Al Youm.
The signing took place between the Ministry of Agriculture of Jordan, the National Center for Agricultural Research, and the Institute of Plant Genetic Resources Research under the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan. This act is part of an executive cooperation program between the two countries' ministries following a previous high-level visit.
The Jordanian Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Saeb Abdel Halim Al-Khuraisat, welcomed the Uzbek delegation, which included representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan. He emphasized the high level of bilateral relations and the significance of this agreement for scientific interaction.
According to Al-Khuraisat's statement, the memorandum aims to strengthen partnership between research centers in the field of agrarian sciences, as well as ensure the sustainable use and exchange of genetic resources for agricultural and food needs, knowledge exchange, and the development of research potential.
The agreement provides for joint research and experiments to evaluate and improve promising plant varieties and cultivars, the exchange of scientific and technical expertise, as well as mutual visits by scientists and specialists.
During the meeting, the Jordanian side provided Uzbek partners with samples of grain and vegetable seeds from the National Seed Bank. These samples possess resistance to soil and irrigation water salinity and are intended for research programs and agronomic trials aimed at developing varieties adapted to such conditions.
In turn, Uzbek representatives handed over grain and vegetable seeds to the Jordanian side for implementation and acclimatization of salt-tolerant varieties within the framework of plant genetic resource exchange programs.
Furthermore, Jordan provided the Uzbek side with several sheep of the Avassi breed to utilize their genetic potential in breeding improvement and livestock development programs. Representatives of Uzbekistan expressed gratitude to the Jordanian Ministry of Agriculture and the National Center for Agricultural Research for facilitating bilateral agricultural cooperation, as reported by Dunyo.
Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia have reached an agreement to expand practical interaction in the field of pharmaceuticals. This cooperation will cover investments, joint projects, technology transfer, and the production of modern medicinal products.
The memorandum was signed during the visit of the Saudi delegation to Uzbekistan. The delegation was headed by Minister of Health Fahd bin Abdulrahman Al-Jaladjel. During this visit, a Uzbek-Saudi business dialogue took place, as well as a round table with the participation of representatives from state bodies, medical institutions, and the private sector.
The Director of the Agency for the Development of the Medical and Pharmaceutical Industry, Abdullo Azizov, presented the Saudi side with information about the current reforms in Uzbekistan. These reforms are aimed at modernizing the pharmaceutical industry, developing high value-added production, attracting foreign investment, and increasing the country's export potential.
Participants were also introduced to the pharmaceutical innovation group BioPharma City. This project envisions the creation of infrastructure for scientific research, innovative production, biotechnological development, and international cooperation.
The agreement allows for cooperation not only in the field of pharmaceuticals but also in other areas of medicine. The parties plan to develop investment partnerships, implement joint initiatives, carry out technology transfer, and establish the production of modern medications. Bilateral meetings and negotiations between representatives of Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia continue within the framework of the official visit of the Saudi delegation.
