A delegation from Uzbekistan participated in a regional professional development program focused on ecosystem service assessment, rainwater harvesting, and land restoration monitoring. The event took place in Jordan from July 26 to August 3, according to a statement from the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan.
The training was part of a regional seminar titled 'Ecosystem Service Assessment, Rainwater Harvesting, and Land Restoration Monitoring' and the field academy 'From Rain to Restoration.' The International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) organized the event.
The program was implemented within the framework of the 'Food Systems, Land Use, and Restoration Impact' (FOLUR) project in Uzbekistan. This project is being implemented by the Office of the Agricultural Center in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
Representatives from the National Center for Knowledge and Innovation in Agriculture, the Project Office, relevant scientific research institutes, as well as staff from FAO and the National Agricultural Research Center of Jordan (NARC) attended the events organized by ICARDA.
During the program, participants studied modern methods for assessing ecosystem services, technologies for efficient use and collection of rainwater, methods for restoring degraded pastures and lands, as well as the concept of the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) Nexus and natural resource monitoring. In addition to theoretical classes, the program included practical field exercises and demonstrations of innovative technologies.
The Ministry of Agriculture noted that the acquired knowledge and practical experience are planned to be applied in Uzbekistan to implement modern approaches to sustainable management of land and water resources, prevent land degradation, ensure efficient rainwater use, and adapt agriculture to climate change.
