The Chinese startup Run Robotics demonstrated its centaur robot at the WAIC 2026 conference in Shanghai. According to a report by the Chinese publication Global Times, this model combines features of a quadrupedal chassis and an android torso.
Design and capabilities of the centaur robot
The lower part of the robot is a quadrupedal chassis equipped with wheels at the ends of its legs. Above it is an android torso, fitted with a head and manipulator arms. This design provides the robot with increased stability compared to bipedal models, allowing it to move quickly over rough terrain and perform tasks typical of humanoid robots, such as operating machinery and manipulating objects.
The robot has the capacity to transport loads up to 120 kilograms, with a maximum static load capacity reaching 210 kilograms. Run Robotics plans to begin mass production of this model at the end of 2026.
Other developments at the conference
At the same conference in Shanghai, the Chinese company PrimeBOT introduced the domestic robot Qiyuan T1. This robot features an automatic switching function between quadrupedal and bipedal modes. In 'dog-robot' mode, it effectively navigates complex areas, including stairs, and when encountering people, it can stand upright, becoming an android.
Drone flight record
Separately noted is the achievement by South African engineer and vlogger Luke Bell of an unofficial world record for quadcopter flight duration. The drone developed by Bell was able to stay airborne for 3 hours, 31 minutes, and 6 seconds on a single charge. The success was ensured by component selection: large-diameter propellers, low-speed electric motors, a lightweight carbon fiber frame, and semi-solid-state batteries with increased energy density.
