He suggested that this could put excessive pressure on the young athlete and advised allowing him to fully master the nuances of red-ball cricket before entrusting him with such responsibilities.

Meanwhile, the Eastern Region Selection Committee firmly defended its decision. Former cricketer Manish Vardhan, representing Jharkhand, told Cricinfo that this decision was not made solely considering the current tournament. He emphasized that they are looking beyond the present. The deputy captain gets the opportunity to work closely with the captain and study team management. They wanted Vaibhav to become more involved in the team's operations, as this would aid his development. But Mr. Sammy is so experienced that he knew what story would come out of his statement and what opinion would be formed among people. Therefore, I do not want to say anything about his statement.'

The main reason for Joseph's absence, as he explained, was his physical condition and workload management. He had been away from international cricket for about a year due to a stress fracture injury. After returning, he played matches against Sri Lanka and then five consecutive ODI matches against New Zealand.

Joseph noted: 'I returned to international cricket after a year. After playing two Tests and five ODIs, I felt my body was not ready for another Test series right away. Therefore, simply stating that I declined the selection, without providing all the information, was a controversial and misleading statement.'

Joseph answered the question of whether this disagreement with head coach Darren Sammy affected their relationship, firmly stating that it would not affect his professional commitment in any way. He emphasized: 'I am a professional athlete. I don't go there to make friends. I go to represent the West Indies, not Darren Sammy. My job is to give my best on the field, and I will continue to do so.'
