The monsoon has not subsided in Uttar Pradesh. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a new weather forecast for August 8, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts of the state. The meteorological department assesses that due to the active monsoon flow in the Gangetic plains, rain may continue across the entire state for the next four to five days. In view of this situation, people are advised to exercise caution during waterlogging, lightning strikes, and intense rainfall.
According to the IMD, rain activity will be highest in eastern Uttar Pradesh on August 8. Additionally, there is a possibility of heavy rainfall in some places in both eastern and western regions on August 9 and 10, indicating that there are no signs of the monsoon slowing down. According to the latest IMD forecast, heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur in Prayagraj, Fatehpur, Mirzapur, Sonbhadra, Raebareli, Kanpur Nagar, Kanpur Dehat, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Etawah, Mainpuri, Firozabad, Auraiya, Jalaun, and Hamirpur within the next 24 hours. There is a risk of waterlogging in low-lying areas, overflowing of small rivers and drains, and traffic disruption due to excessive rainfall in these districts in a short period.
The meteorological department has also expressed apprehension of heavy rainfall in Varanasi, Chandauli, Jaunpur, Unnao, Amethi, Sultanpur, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Agra, and Jhansi, where heavy rain with thunderstorms may occur. Experts believe that continuous rain could lead to waterlogging problems in many cities, so people are advised to pay attention to the warnings issued by the meteorological department. According to the IMD, a strong monsoon flow persists over the Gangetic plains, which will result in higher rainfall activity in eastern Uttar Pradesh. Districts such as Prayagraj, Mirzapur, Sonbhadra, Varanasi, Chandauli, Jaunpur, Amethi, and Sultanpur are likely to have cloudy skies and multiple spells of rain throughout the day.
Although the impact of rain will be greater in Purvanchal, western Uttar Pradesh will not be spared. Heavy spells of rain can also be seen in Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Ghaziabad, and Gautam Buddha Nagar, which will lead to a decrease in temperature and relief from humidity. IMD has also indicated the possibility of heavy rainfall in Kanpur Nagar, Kanpur Dehat, Fatehpur, Jalaun, Hamirpur, and Jhansi. Farmers and general citizens in these areas are advised to be careful of waterlogging. According to the meteorological department's data, the highest rainfall was recorded in Etawah district in the last 24 hours, with 126 mm recorded in Etawah tehsil and 120 mm in Chakarnagar. Furthermore, 89.2 mm, 85.6 mm, and 78.4 mm of rain were recorded in Mirzapur, Varanasi, and Lucknow, respectively, which clarifies that the monsoon is continuously active in many parts of the state. IMD states that the monsoon system will remain active for the next four to five days, leading to intermittent rainfall in various parts of the state, ranging from light to heavy showers.
Some important advice has been issued for the public: avoid non-essential travel during heavy rain; do not stay in open areas during lightning; do not drive vehicles through waterlogged routes; stay away from the banks of rivers and drains; it is mandatory to follow the warnings issued by the meteorological department and local administration; and farmers are advised to maintain proper drainage arrangements in their fields.
The latest forecast makes it clear that the monsoon is active in full force in Uttar Pradesh. Rain will occur in several districts in both eastern and western parts on August 8, and the threat of heavy to very heavy rainfall remains in some districts. Therefore, people need to be especially vigilant about the weather for the next 24 hours.
