The Indian team faced a significant issue ahead of the two-match series against Sri Lanka: Subhman Gill could not take the field on the first day of the friendly match. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) reported that Gill sustained an injury to his ring finger of his right hand during a training session on Thursday.
According to information from the BCCI, the injury occurred during practice, and as a precautionary measure, Subhman Gill was released from participation in the three-day friendly match against SLC XI on the first day. The BCCI medical team is continuously monitoring his condition. Currently, it is unknown how serious the injury is or how long his recovery will take.
In Gill's absence, experienced player KL Rahul assumed the duties of captain of the Indian team. This match is considered extremely important for the Indian players before the start of the Test series, as the team will conduct its final preparation in it.
The three-day friendly match is taking place at the Non-Descript's Cricket Club Ground in Colombo. The match is scheduled from August 7th to August 9th. In this match, SLC XI won the toss and decided to start with the batting innings.
Subhman Gill's injury caused concern among members of the Indian team, especially considering he also led the squad as a senior player. Nevertheless, the BCCI emphasized that this is currently only a precautionary measure, and the medical staff is closely tracking the recovery process. Now, all attention is focused on whether Gill can fully recover before the start of the Test series.
