Netflix announced that its largest production in India to date, Operation Safed Sagar, has contributed more than $24 million to the Indian economy. This contribution was achieved through local hiring, business collaboration, and visual effects (VFX) partnerships.
On the occasion of its tenth anniversary in India, Netflix Co-Chief Officer Ted Sarandos made this announcement in an official press release. He emphasized that every Netflix production is local, and behind every episode are thousands of people whose skills and creativity make the story possible.
Sarandos noted that the scale of this series demonstrates the presence of talent, technical expertise, and production capabilities in India to create entertainment content that can confidently compete with the best global examples.
Production Details
The production engaged over 850 local businesses, as well as more than 200 actors and crew members. Furthermore, for the shoots, which lasted 115 days across 11 cities, including Patiala, Gwalior, Chandigarh, and Bikaner, 4000 temporary workers were employed.
Netflix also entered into partnership agreements with 15 visual effects (VFX) studios based in India. These partnerships involved about 1200 artists to create nearly 50 minutes of aerial scenes in the series. Only these VFX and creative technology partnerships contributed over $5 million to the Indian economy, accounting for 20 percent of the project's total economic contribution.
Ted Sarandos added that after ten years of presence in India, the company has seen the realization of the 'Netflix effect' through every story created, and Operation Safed Sagar is one of the most prominent examples of this journey.
