Amazulu striker Thando Ngivenya believes that his goal in the first match of the season helped restore his confidence after a long recovery period from an injury.
Ngivenya, who will play a key role in his team's hopes in the MTN8 quarter-final against Sekhukhune United on Sunday, commented on his winning goal in the Usuthu match with a score of 1-0 in the Betway Premiership against Stellenbosch last weekend.
During the club's press conference at Kings Park Stadium this week, Ngivenya stated: 'It gave me confidence because it's not easy after an injury. Confidence drops. Now I just hope for the best.'
The forward admitted that he was taken out of the game due to a fracture and noted that the recovery process was physically challenging. He added: 'The return was exhausting for my physical condition, but now I am fine.'
Despite being Usuthu's top scorer last season, Ngivenya believes he still has room to improve his performance, as his progress was interrupted by the injury. He shared his thoughts: 'I am still trying to find myself again. I think I will do my best.'
Furthermore, the former Zimbabwean Premier League forward admitted that he is still getting used to the pace of the Betway Premiership. He explained: 'The PSL is faster than the league I played in before, so I am still trying to adapt.'
Ngivenya also mentioned that coach Arthur Zwane continues to emphasize the importance of ruthlessness in front of the goal. He reported: 'He always tells us that every movement must be aimed at a goal. We fight for a goal in every game.'
When asked about the possibility of reaching double digits in goals this season, after leading the AmaZulu scoring chart with 10 goals in his debut season, the 22-year-old player preferred not to make big predictions, saying: 'I leave the rest to God.'
