Senate Launches Month of Sustainable Development Goals in Uzbekistan

Various groups participated in the event in Uzbekistan, including members of parliament, representatives from ministries and agencies, UN staff, leadership of the Interparliamentary Union secretariat, as well as delegates from non-governmental organizations, media, and businessmen. The conference was opened by the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Tanzila Narbaeva.

As part of this month, numerous events are planned across the republic: these include parliamentary hearings, local Kengash sessions, conferences, forums, round tables, open discussions, and special media projects. The main objective of the month is to strengthen citizens' sense of involvement in the SDGs concept and demonstrate the effectiveness of ongoing reforms.

Uzbekistan has integrated 16 national Sustainable Development Goals and 126 corresponding targets, fully aligning them with the priorities of the 'Uzbekistan – 2030' Strategy. Thanks to implemented reforms, positive changes have been achieved in over 70% of the goals, and full implementation has been reached for 45% of indicators.

Significant improvements have been noted in the social sphere: the poverty rate in the country has decreased from 17% in 2021 to 5.8% by the end of 2025. Furthermore, coverage of preschool education has increased from 27.7% to 78%, and higher education coverage has risen from 8.3% to 47.7%.

There is also an increase in the share of women in state administration bodies: it has grown from 27% to 35% overall, to 38% in the Legislative Chamber, and to 32.5% in local Kengashes. In 2026, Uzbekistan ranked 65th out of 167 countries in the Sustainable Development Goals Index.
