If you are looking for a healthy and appetizing snack, especially on a rainy day, the Chana Kebab sandwich is an excellent choice. This sandwich, made from protein-rich chickpeas (Kabuli Chana), spicy kebabs, a garlic yogurt dip, and fresh vegetables, will appeal to both children and adults. It serves as a healthy alternative to fried street snacks, providing satiety and excellent flavor.
Instead of traditional donuts with tea, you can enjoy a Chana Kebab sandwich. The combination of spicy kebabs, garlic yogurt dip, green sauce, and fresh vegetables makes it popular among people of all ages. To prepare, first roast spices such as coriander powder, chickpea masala, chaat masala, ground cumin, Kashmiri red chili, turmeric, black pepper, and dried mint for 15–20 seconds.
Next, add half a cup of water so that the spices do not burn, and cook for about a minute. Then, add boiled chickpeas, salt, and black salt, mix thoroughly, and cook for another 2–3 minutes. Lightly mash the chickpeas while retaining some texture. After this, stir in fresh cilantro and lemon juice. Let the mixture cool completely, and then form patties or kebabs using a mixer.
To prepare the kebabs, put a little oil in a pan and fry them on both sides until golden and crispy.
Preparing Garlic Yogurt Dip
To make the dip, you need: ½ cup of thick yogurt (hung curd), 2 cloves of grated garlic, 1 tablespoon of finely chopped fresh cilantro, 1 teaspoon of lemon juice, salt to taste, ¼ teaspoon of ground black pepper, and ½ teaspoon of sugar. Mix all ingredients—yogurt, grated garlic, cilantro, lemon juice, salt, black pepper, and sugar—in one bowl until smooth, resulting in a creamy garlic dip.
Assembling the Sandwich
For assembling the sandwich, you will need: 4 slices of bread, 2 tablespoons of green sauce, 1 tomato (sliced), marinated hot onion as needed, and oil or ghee for toasting the bread. First, brush the bread slices with oil or ghee and toast them until lightly golden. Apply green sauce to one slice and garlic dip to the other. Then, place the tomato slices, topped with the crispy Chana Kebab. Add a little garlic dip and marinated hot onion, after which the sandwich is closed with the second slice of bread. Cut the finished sandwich in half and serve immediately.
Tips: If the chickpea mixture seems too soft, you can add some roasted legume powder or breadcrumbs. You can also add cucumbers, lettuce, or cheese slices. This sandwich is an excellent and nutritious option for a children's lunch, office lunch, or tea time.
