Launching a startup turns out to be much harder than it appears from the outside, despite the attractive appearance of successful companies, large funding rounds, and significant achievements. However, the efforts, stress, and personal sacrifices behind these successes are rarely discussed. Recently, a video of an Indian startup founder living in America went viral on social media. In this video, he shared that in the pursuit of building his company, he lost many important moments of his life. The most painful aspect for him is that he has not been able to see his parents for the last two years.
He emphasized that managing a startup is not just business, but a daily struggle with new challenges. The founder explained that when a person starts a startup, their responsibility increases manifold. They have to solve many tasks simultaneously: worrying about clients, employees, as well as expenses and the company's future. Under such conditions, it becomes extremely difficult to find time for family and friends. He refuted the idea that startup founders work by choice, noting that they often have to work from early morning until late at night, and vacations practically disappear.
In his emotional video, he stated that it has been about two years since he last saw his parents. Due to business obligations and constant busyness, he could not return to India. He admitted that in the pursuit of building the company, he missed priceless moments spent with his family. In his opinion, money and success can be achieved later, but time spent with family cannot be recovered, and this is what worries him the most.
After the publication of this video, many users expressed agreement that the world of startups looks brilliant on the outside but is very difficult inside. Some commentators noted that founders of any new company have to make compromises in their personal lives. Others added that stories of success are widely publicized, while accounts of hidden struggles, tension, and loneliness remain little known.
Experts also believe that startup founders face enormous pressure in the initial years. They constantly have to deal with market problems, clients, teams, and investments. In such circumstances, increased mental stress and distance from family are common phenomena. Nevertheless, many agree that maintaining a work-life balance is crucial; otherwise, even if one achieves success, they may lose important relationships and memories.
