Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced its 15-member squad for a three-day practice match ahead of the upcoming two-Test series against Team India. This practice match will be played on August 7th at the NCC ground in Colombo. The 25-year-old all-rounder Sonal Dinuṣa will captain this team.
According to Newswire, four players included in the squad announced by Sri Lanka Cricket are considered potential members of the Test team. However, the official squad for the two Test matches against India is yet to be announced. Therefore, this match will be a crucial opportunity for these players to make an impression on the selectors. Lahiru Kumara, Wishwa Fernando, Sonal Dinuṣa, and Nishan Madushanka could play against the Indian team starting August 15th.
Sonal Dinuṣa, who is 25 years old, has played three Test matches for Sri Lanka so far. He made his Test debut against Bangladesh last year. Dinuṣa has scored a total of 186 runs in five innings, with his best innings being 92 runs. In addition to batting, he has taken six wickets in bowling. Dinuṣa's performance in first-class cricket has been excellent; he has scored 3,698 runs along with 133 wickets. His records include 11 centuries, 19 half-centuries, and seven instances of taking five wickets in an innings.
The Sri Lanka Cricket XI includes Nishan Madushanka, Ravindu Rashantha, Pasindu Suriyabandara, Pawan Ratnayake, Ahan Vikramsinghe, Sonal Dinuṣa (Captain), Anjla Bandara (Wicketkeeper), Nipun Dhanjaya, Lahiru Kumara, Wishwa Fernando, Asanka Manoj, Isitha Wijesundera, Ramesh Mendis, Kesara Nuwantha, and Dilum Sudira. On the other hand, the Indian team includes Shubman Gill (Captain), KL Rahul (Vice-Captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant (Wicketkeeper), Devdutt Padikkal, Sai Sudharsan (subject to fitness clearance), Dhruv Jurel (Wicketkeeper), Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Manav Suthar, Akib Nabi, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Barar, and Saransh Jain.
India's schedule for the tour of Sri Lanka is as follows: Practice match in Colombo from August 7-9 at 10 AM; First Test in Galle from August 15-19 at 10 AM; and Second Test in Colombo from August 23-27 at 10 AM. This match on August 7th will be a significant opportunity for India to acclimatize to Sri Lankan conditions and make final preparations against spin, while it remains a challenge for the host team's players to secure a spot in the Test squad.
