Actor Yash discusses the difficulties of portraying Ravana in the film 'Ramayana'

The trailer for the film 'Ramayana' was released on July 30, and the movie is scheduled to be shown in cinemas around Diwali. After the trailer's release, the film attracted significant public attention. In this adaptation of the 'Ramayana,' Vivek Oberoi portrays the role of Vidyutjighva (Vidyutjighva).

According to mythological legends and the text of the 'Ramayana,' Vidyutjighva was the husband of Shurpanka, Ravana's sister. According to ancient tales, Vidyutjighva was depicted as a powerful warrior from the Kalkayya Asura lineage. Other mythological accounts indicate that Vidyutjighva was a demonic warrior who was considered the leader of an army belonging to a king named Kalkayya. He belonged to the Rakshasa clan and opposed Ravana.

The Kalkayya clan often clashed with both deities and other Asura kings. According to beliefs, Shurpanka entered into a Gandharva marriage with Vidyutjighva. However, her brother Ravana did not approve of this union. Information about these relationships is presented differently in various versions of the 'Ramayana.'

Some legends mention that Ravana disliked Shurpanka's marriage to Vidyutjighva because the latter established his dominance over both the earth and the heavens. Due to issues of family honor, mutual enmity, and disagreements between the parties, Ravana was against this marriage.

According to the stories, Ravana despised Vidyutjighva. When Ravana set out to conquer the entire world, he first captured many southern kingdoms and then established himself as the ruler of the earth and the heavens. After this, he went to Patala Lok, where he met Vidyutjighva. Vidyutjighva refused to support Ravana and decided to fight. A fierce battle ensued between them, resulting in Vidyutjighva's death.

When Shurpanka learned of her husband's death, she was deeply distressed and enraged. Her anger was directed at her own brother, Ravana. After this incident, she began to hold Ravana responsible for her suffering and sorrow. In her rage, she cursed Ravana, stating that his demise would come from the same arrogance that destroyed her happiness.

Shurpanka's anger towards Ravana intensified after her husband's death. The grief of widowhood settled deeply within her. It was because of this pain and indignation that she pushed Ravana toward actions that later had serious consequences. It is believed that her feelings played a certain role in the events surrounding Sita's abduction.

It is said that Shurpanka once wandered through the forests of Panchavati and met Shri Rama. She was captivated by his appearance and personality and confessed her feelings to him. However, Shri Rama, declaring his devotion to his wife, sent her to Lakshmana. When Shurpanka approached Lakshmana, he also refused her. This situation caused Shurpanka intense anger. In a fit of rage, she attempted to harm Mother Sita, but Lakshmana punished her by cutting off her nose.

According to another version, Shurpanka was initially dissatisfied with her brother Ravana because she held him responsible for the death of her husband, Vidyutjighva. She wanted revenge on him but could not confront him directly due to his strength. When she learned of Shri Rama's power and valor, she decided that only Shri Rama could defeat Ravana. For this reason, she tried to incite enmity between them. It is said that this chain of events led to Sita's abduction, and ultimately, Lord Rama destroyed Ravana.
