According to religious scriptures, this Ekadashi holds special significance as it is capable of absolving sins and increasing merits. During the era of the Mahabharata, Yudhishthira inquired of God Krishna about the meaning of Kamika Ekadashi. In response, Lord Krishna explained that Kamika Ekadashi falls on the eleventh day of the dark moon of the Shravana month. Worshiping Lord Vishnu on this day while observing a fast yields rewards comparable to a sacrifice. This fast is considered equivalent to bathing in sacred places and possesses the power to destroy all sins.
It is believed that the influence of this Ekadashi is so great that even the most serious sins can be atoned for by observing it. Those who observe this fast with sincere faith attain the bliss of Vishnu Loka. On this day, it is essential to worship Tulsi and offer Tulsi leaves to Lord Vishnu. Lighting oil in the temple of Lord Vishnu at night is also highly significant.

Pandit Pravin Mishra provided information regarding the exact date of Kamika Ekadashi. The start of the Ekadashi date is scheduled for August 8th at 13:59, and its conclusion will be on August 9th at 11:03. According to the ascending date, Kamika Ekadashi will be observed on August 9, 2026, and the fast must be observed on this day. The completion of the fast (Paran) can be done the following day, August 10, 2026, between 05:50 and 08:00 in the morning.
(Method of Worship for Kamika Ekadashi 2026)
On the day of Ekadashi, one should wake up before sunrise, take a bath, and clean the home shrine. A yellow cloth should be spread on a special platform, and an image or statue of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi should be placed there. After bathing with water from Gangajal, flowers should be offered, tilak applied, Akshat placed, and Aarti performed. Then, the mantra 'Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya' must be chanted using a Tulsi garland. If time is short, at least 11 repetitions should be performed. An offering of fruits must be made to Lord Vishnu, including Tulsi leaves, as the Lord does not accept offerings without Tulsi. It is recommended to consume only vegetarian food on this day. It is also necessary to make donations within one's means, such as giving fruits; even budget-friendly donations are considered pious. Observing the fast with complete faith and devotion brings special grace from Lord Vishnu. Many followers have received divine grace even in Kali Yuga, so everyone should take advantage of the benefits of this holy Ekadashi.
