TraMod AWARDS 2026 announces fourth edition of international award on tradition and modernity in architecture and design

The TraMod ACADEMY, which has established itself as the first international academy focused on studying the interactions between tradition and modernity in architecture and design, is about to hold its fourth edition of the TraMod AWARDS 2026. This international award has opened submissions for works.

The TraMod AWARDS aims to receive both professional projects (whether built or purely conceptual) and student works. Projects must demonstrate interactions between the concepts of tradition and modernity and can be submitted in four distinct areas: architecture, interior design, fashion, and product design.

The awards ceremony will take place in Istanbul, Turkey. The event is directed by Dr. Javad Eiraji, and the organization is managed by the TraMod ACADEMY.

Composition of the Jury Panel

The jury panel for the TraMod AWARDS 2026 is composed of various specialists. In the Professional Architecture and Interior Design category, names such as Prof. Dr. Azra Akšamija, Full Professor at the MIT Department of Architecture - Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture; Selçuk Avcı, Founder of Avcı Architects; and Dr. Armin Daneshgar, Founder of Daneshgar Architects, are listed. Other members include Raza Ali Dada, Sonia Ashoor, Reza Daneshmir, Pepe Gascón, Dr. Ali Derya Dostoğlu, Caroline Rodlauer, Hooman Balazadeh, Mohammad Saifullah Siddiqui, among others.

Category Details and Deadlines

The submission categories are divided into A (Professional, covering built or conceptual works) and B (Student), encompassing the types Architecture, Interior Design, Fashion Design, and Industrial/Product Design. Regarding deadlines, the announcement of the TraMod AWARDS 2026 opening occurred in August 2026. Early Bird registrations are open until October 10, 2026, while standard registrations run until November 10, 2026, and late registrations until November 30, 2026.

The results, including the selection lists (Longlist, Shortlist) and the Gala Night, will be announced in December 2026. Andrés Jaque discusses at the UIA 2026 Congress that design and activism are inseparable

During the World Congress of Architects of the UIA 2026, held in Barcelona, the central theme was 'Becoming. Architectures for a Transitioning Planet'. This theme positioned architecture as an area of practice directly linked to environmental, social, and political changes, rather than something peripheral to them.

Andrés Jaque's View on Architecture

Among the participants of this congress was architect Andrés Jaque, founder of the Office for Political Innovation and dean of the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP) at Columbia University. ArchDaily interviewed Jaque to discuss architecture's capacity to propose solutions, the importance of experimentation in academic training, and the need to view transition as a continuous state, not a final point.

For Jaque, the current relevance of architecture stems from the fact that many of the structures defining contemporary society are being questioned.
