The question arises as to why there is no single standard for all types of cables. However, a model already exists that has become the standard in several countries—this is USB-C, a small oval connector that can be inserted either up or down. It is an almost universal connector, consolidating many functions that were previously performed by different cables, including data, audio, video, and power transmission.

Today, most electronics manufacturers use USB-C as the standard connector for charging phones, tablets, and laptops. Nevertheless, this is a relatively recent development, and many older models, as well as modern desktop computers, still operate using other ports.

This tangle of cables is a consequence of technological development itself, which is inherently fragmented. Various connectors have appeared in the history of electronics to meet different needs, and often the same function was served by multiple technologies.

The situation was even more complicated before. Around the mid-1990s, a typical computer could have, among other things, two PS/2 ports for cables, one port for the keyboard, another for the mouse, one or two RS-232 connectors for external scanners or modems, a printer port, a floppy disk input, and if the computer had a sound card, audio input and output ports, as well as a microphone jack.

The situation was exacerbated by the fact that the connection was not automatic. Each connector required individual configuration, which was done by providing the computer with information about the used input, operating system, device driver, interface speed, and an infinite number of bits and numbers.

This created a real nightmare for users, and manufacturers were also not satisfied with this situation. To bring order to this chaos, in 1995, a group of seven technology companies, including Microsoft and Intel, gathered to discuss creating a new technology that would standardize the connection between devices and computers.

Thus, USB was born, which stands for Universal Serial Bus in English. The first USB cables appeared the following year, in 1996, and they possessed the ability to transmit data and electrical energy, quickly spreading among keyboards, mice, webcams, flash drives, and other peripheral devices.

The abbreviation USB refers both to the cables and to the type of protocol they use to process digital data. Regarding connectors, the first version, likely the most famous, was USB-A. This is a larger, rectangular connector that, for some inexplicable scientific reason, requires turning at least twice to finally fit into the port.

Later, more compact and efficient models appeared, such as Type B, Micro-USB, and Mini-USB. Finally, in 2014, the smallest and most advanced connector at the time—USB-C—was released, capable of transmitting high-speed data, power, and video signals.

The existence of a universal standard for connectors, besides convenience, also reduces production costs for manufacturers. Today, most devices, whether phones, tablets, or computers, are released with USB-C ports. In the case of smartphones, this connector has become almost uniform for charging ports—largely due to its size, which facilitates the creation of lighter and thinner devices.

Another factor, regulatory, has further influenced the mass adoption of the new model. In 2022, the European Union adopted a measure requiring that all small and medium portable devices sold within its member states be equipped with a USB-C charging port. This measure, discussed since 2006, aimed to reduce electronic waste by preventing the disposal of obsolete chargers.

Apple offered the most resistance to this measure, having used the proprietary Lightning connector in its phones. The company funded research, arguing that this measure would hinder innovation and lead to greater environmental costs. However, it eventually conceded and announced in 2023 that its new iPhone 15 models would use Type-C chargers.

Brazil also proposed measures inspired by the European regulation. In 2022, Senator Carlos Favaro (PSD-MT) introduced Bill (PL) 2.643/2022, which required the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) to approve only devices equipped with Type-C charger support. However, this text is still under review.

Microsoft has implemented measures to restrict spending on artificial intelligence tools. In an internal communication released by the website 404 Media, the Redmond company notified its engineers about the adoption of strict budgetary limits for AI use in the workplace.

This new policy aligns the creator of Windows with other large industry corporations that have expressed concern over the high cost of AI tokens, reaching a point where they cost more than the employees themselves. The intervention aims to control the intensive use of tools like GitHub Copilot in daily business operations.

In recent months, the technology market has witnessed the rise of a practice called 'tokenmaxxing,' characterized by the constant use of AI by developers to produce large amounts of code. The problem lies in the fact that the cost of this uncontrolled consumption has increased drastically, without companies achieving corresponding productivity gains.

To prevent this escalation of costs, Jay Parikh, Executive Vice President of Microsoft, communicated in the leaked email that the current focus must be directed towards generating 'results that truly impact' both customers and the company's business. The executive emphasized the need for awareness regarding token consumption while accelerating the use of GitHub Copilot to meet goals.

To optimize the cost-benefit ratio, Microsoft changed the underlying technology of its internal tools to GPT-5.6, a version considered more efficient and economical to operate. The new rules include a rigorous monitoring system, following the trend of closely supervising tokens to manage expenses. Each employee now has a dedicated dashboard to track their own spending, preventing surprises.

The leaked document revealed data that justifies the leadership's apprehension, indicating that many engineers were incurring monthly expenses in the thousands of dollars. The regulations also warn that additional restrictions may be imposed if consumption remains out of control.

It is important to note that Microsoft did not implement this measure due to financial insufficiency; its most recent financial report shows growth in revenue and profits over the last year, exceeding Wall Street projections. However, in response to explicit criticism from investors regarding the excessive spending of large tech companies on AI, cost containment is part of a strategic realignment known in the market as 'Tokenpocalypse.'

In a global context where high AI costs continue to worry business owners, other corporations such as Amazon, Adobe, Atlassian, and Citi have also imposed restrictions due to astronomical invoices generated by development teams. The perception that costs were not balancing reached a point where an Nvidia executive admitted that AI was becoming more expensive than retaining employees. Furthermore, Uber limited the use of tools like Claude Code to reduce costs, and Meta required its employees to save tokens after spending reached billions of dollars.

During a detailed study of the stonecrop Saxifraga candelabrum, which grows in the Tibetan Plateau, it was established that this plant is capable of catching small insects. The hunting mechanism is based on the use of sticky hairs located on the stem, which attract insects due to the flower's specific aroma.

After capturing prey, it is digested by the plant, from which necessary nutrients are then absorbed. According to information published in the journal Nature Communications, it is suggested that these stonecrops may have initially used sticky hairs solely for protection against invertebrate herbivores, but over time they evolved into predators.
