Unfortunately, the current state of biodiversity causes serious concern, as many animal and plant species worldwide are under threat of extinction. Processes such as deforestation, urban expansion, climate change, environmental pollution, and industrialization inflict significant damage on biodiversity.
As part of the 'Maqsad' project at the Center for Sustainable Development of Uzbekistan, a discussion was held with Otabek Alimardonov, Senior Specialist of the SCO People's Diplomacy Center in Uzbekistan and Doctor of Historical Sciences, dedicated to the importance of biodiversity and the problems of its conservation.

The only way to preserve the Earth's surface and natural balance is through comprehensive preservation of all components of biodiversity and ecosystems. However, in recent years, about 47 thousand species of creatures that form the basis of global biodiversity have been endangered. The risk of extinction is particularly high for many animals and plants due to anthropogenic impact.
In this process, increasing civil society activity is most important. If the public cannot become active, even more acute problems may arise in the future, as we will be unable to ensure our children's harmonious interaction with nature and the correct attitude towards the environment, starting from kindergarten and school.
Previously, people lived in harmony with nature without obstacles or reserves. But now this is impossible. The number of poachers harming nature and killing rare animals has increased. Excessive greed and lack of compassion in humans are one of the reasons for the extinction of many animal species. This is why reserves were created to protect nature. The Red List of Uzbekistan was established to conserve endangered animals and plants.
Currently, dozens of reserves operate across the republic. Unfortunately, the reserves themselves lack sufficiently developed programs aimed at organizing recreational areas for the population or ensuring interaction with nature.
These efforts are also developing significantly earlier in neighboring countries. In Kyrgyzstan, there is a high risk of snow leopard extinction, and in Kazakhstan, saiga antelope is one of the species frequently hunted as a result of anthropogenic impact. A movement has emerged globally that involves famous actors and celebrities in solving these problems. Using famous personalities to draw the attention of all humanity to the issue yields good results.
Youth should be the main participant in caring for nature, so it is necessary to increase the activity of young people. Presenting influential roles through social networks yields a good effect for them, as does involving schoolchildren and preschool children in various activities. Children who grow up with love and affection for nature are an important factor in creating an ecologically sustainable future.
