Australia decides not to hold practice matches before the Test series in India

The five-match series, which starts on January 21st in Nagpur, is currently in the preparation stage as the Australian team works on its pre-planned preparation model. This decision is particularly significant given that the series against India will last over a month. The matches will take place in Nagpur, Chennai, Guwahati, and Ranchi, with the final Test in Ahmedabad.

It should be noted that after the 2004-05 season, Australia failed to win any Test series in India, so attention to the team's preparation for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will inevitably be high.

In an interview with Cricket.com.au, McDonald said that the team believes it will have enough time to adapt to local conditions. He emphasized that Australia will not play practice games and will focus on the location. According to him, there are various preparation options, as the team has already visited the UAE and previously traveled to Bangalore before visiting India. The structure of preparation and player management is also being discussed.

Nevertheless, Australia has planned tours with local teams from South Africa and England. Thus, they chose a different path for the visit to India. During the 2023 visit to India, the Australian team was based in Aluru near Bangalore. McDonald noted that ideal preparation would be training in a location that closely approximates the conditions of the first Test or the entire Test series, if a suitable venue can be found.

McDonald added that harmony of conditions and weather is crucial when selecting such locations. The team is confident it will choose the right place, but confirmation of this location is currently absent. Reports suggest that among the candidates for the trip to India are Matthew Cummins, Todd Murphy, Cooper Connolly, Peter Handscomb, and Matthew Renshaw. The coach also mentioned that players who make the shortlist for the India series but do not participate in home matches against New Zealand beforehand will likely prepare for the India tour rather than playing in the Big Bash.

Furthermore, McDonald stated that much will be determined after the four Tests against New Zealand, when the team assesses the players' condition. He admitted that other players with different skills useful in India might be selected, so the squad that finishes the series against New Zealand does not necessarily have to go to India directly. His view is that some players will require additional preparation starting in Australia, where a balance must be struck between Big Bash commitments.

The next step is determining the location of the preparatory camp, after which Australia can move on to the final preparation plan for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, starting on January 21st in Nagpur.

Indian team faces issues due to injuries of five players ahead of test series against Sri Lanka

Jadeja's return expected

While injuries are increasing the tension, the return of experienced all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja to the team is considered almost inevitable. After Manav Sutar debuted in the spin department and took seven wickets, it will now be interesting to see if Harsh Dubey can retain his place in the squad.
