In the Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh, farmers were seen in long queues for urea fertilizers under the Sadhan Sahari Samit Retwaga. Following the onset of rains, the demand for urea sharply increased due to the need to spray rice, corn, and sugarcane crops.
Male and female farmers waited their turn to apply fertilizers to their fields in time, sheltering under umbrellas, covering themselves with polyethylene, or standing in the open air.
On Tuesday, a large crowd of farmers gathered at the Retwaga Samit from early morning. Despite the sudden start of the rain, male and female farmers did not leave their spots to receive the necessary fertilizers on time. The viral video clearly shows women leaving household chores and continuing to stand in line in the rain.
The Director of Agriculture stated that there is no shortage of urea in the district. He specified that one thousand bags of fertilizer were distributed at the Retwaga committee by evening. The Director also reported that more than 17 thousand metric tons of urea and over 6 thousand metric tons of DAP are available in the district. Out of 2000 bags of urea that arrived at the Retwaga committee yesterday, 1000 bags were distributed, bringing the total number of distributed urea bags to 4000 so far.
The Department of Agriculture has taken a strict stance against violations and irregularities in fertilizer distribution. According to the Director of Agriculture, licenses of five sellers have already been suspended, and six other traders have been sent notices demanding an explanation. He emphasized that such measures against those who violate rules concerning farmers will continue.
