Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum once again expressed her disagreement with the United States' tariff policy on Tuesday. She stated that there are more effective methods for strengthening the regional economy and resolving trade disputes between countries.
During a daily press conference at the National Palace, Sheinbaum noted: 'We do not agree with the tariffs... and practically no other country agrees, as we believe there are other mechanisms... to strengthen one economic zone relative to another.'
These remarks came amid intensifying discussions in the United States regarding the trade policy of US President Donald Trump. A coalition of 25 US states filed a lawsuit challenging new comprehensive tariffs imposed on imports from most of the US trading partners.
This lawsuit was filed in the U.S. International Trade Court. The plaintiffs demand the cancellation of tariffs amounting to 10% or 12.5%, arguing that they exceed the legal authority of the US executive branch.
According to Sheinbaum, although trade policy is a decision made by the US government, there are better ways to stimulate the development of the regional economy.
