Shortly before the decree's publication, the Argentine Presidency issued a statement affirming that the defense of the nation, its citizens, and its symbols is non-negotiable. Javier Milei's Government reinforced this position, declaring that 'those who attack the Argentine Republic are not welcome in our country.'

This measure arises during a period of growing tension, especially after the end of the 2026 World Cup, in which Argentina suffered a defeat to Spain. The Argentine Government accused several international actors of promoting a supposed 'anti-Argentina campaign' on social media.

Accusations and Denials

On Sunday, Milei alleged that the Brazilian Government had financed part of this supposed campaign, with support from Mexico and the United States Democratic Party. In response, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum vehemently refuted the accusation, denying any involvement by her Government. Later, on Wednesday, Argentine Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno pointed out that social media posts made by public figures, such as Spanish singer Rosalía and American actor Samuel L. Jackson and Spanish actor Javier Bardem, were part of this alleged campaign.

The criticism disseminated on digital platforms focused mainly on allegations of bias in refereeing during the Argentine team's World Cup and accusations of racism.
