Electronic Arts (EA) announced that it will finalize the procedure on August 4th to convert back into a private corporation. This news was disclosed in a document addressed to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the regulatory body of the United States financial market.
The company itself stated that it has already obtained all necessary regulatory authorizations for the operation to take place.
This process is linked to the acquisition announced last year by a consortium composed of Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners. The transaction, valued at US$ 55 billion, represents the largest leveraged buyout deal ever made in the gaming segment.
In an official statement, EA expressed the expectation of formally concluding the merger at the market close on August 4, 2026.
Despite the change in corporate structure, the company clarified that Andrew Wilson will maintain his position as Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Furthermore, Electronic Arts' headquarters will remain in Redwood City, California, with no announced changes to leadership or operational activities.
With the completion of this operation, Electronic Arts will end a 35-year period operating as a publicly traded company. In recent years, the company has faced the same types of difficulties observed in much of the gaming industry, such as layoffs, studio closures, project cancellations, and the discontinuation of the Need for Speed franchise.
However, the company has also recently recorded positive financial results. The title Battlefield 6 has established itself as one of EA's biggest commercial successes since its release in October 2025.
Electronic Arts continues to rank among the largest companies in the video game sector. In the last fiscal year, the company generated revenue of US$ 7.5 billion, driven by titles such as EA Sports FC, Madden NFL, The Sims, Titanfall, and Battlefield.
The company is also continuing to expand its catalog after ending its collaboration with FIFA, which concluded in 2023 with the introduction of the EA Sports FC brand.
