Fenprof denounces pressure on teachers to change vacation periods

The central government of India informed the Supreme Court on Tuesday that while the proposal to transition the NEET examination from paper format to computer format is under consideration, a final decision will only be made after receiving the report from a high-level task force led by Nandan Nilakani, which was established to reform India's public examination systems.

In its written submission, the government provided the Court with information regarding measures taken to ensure the integrity of the examination. These measures include strict penalty provisions against the use of unfair means and the formation of the task force. This notification was made in response to an appeal by the Association of Physicians of India, which demanded a more secure conduct of NEET following last year's exam leak.

The government stated that 'the transition from paper to computer format, whether in a single-stage or two-stage manner similar to JEE, is currently being reviewed by all stakeholders.' It was added that the final approach would be chosen after considering the recommendations of the task force.

It was also noted that the NTA has converted seven out of its eight major examinations to computer-based testing, but NEET (UG) remains the only major examination conducted in paper format.
