Modern problems such as climate change, air pollution, land degradation, and desertification are among the most pressing environmental challenges for the global community. Preventing these threats, creating a healthy and comfortable environment for the population, and rationally using natural resources have become key directions of Uzbekistan's state policy.
As part of fulfilling the tasks defined in the 'Uzbekistan - 2030' Strategy, approved by Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. PF-21 dated February 16, 2026, an important task has been established to radically improve the ecological situation in the republic and eliminate environmental problems that negatively affect human health and quality of life.
The national project 'Yashil Maqon' plays a special role in ensuring the fulfillment of these tasks. This comprehensive nationwide measure is aimed not only at planting trees and shrubs but also at improving the ecological condition of territories, expanding green zones, reducing dust and harmful waste impact, and creating a prosperous and beautiful environment for residents.
To further expand the national project 'Yashil Maqon', a Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. 113-F was adopted on March 25, 2026. According to this decree, specific indicators were established for the qualitative and systematic implementation of afforestation measures in various regions and sectors.
It is planned that throughout the republic, a total of 200 million seedlings of ornamental and fruit trees, shrubs, and saplings will be planted during 2026. Specifically, it is planned to plant 75 million seedlings in the spring and 125 million in the autumn.
According to data entered into the 'yashilmakon.eco' electronic platform by regional headquarters, 81.4 million tree and shrub seedlings were planted across the republic in the spring of 2026. This corresponds to 108 percent of the set target for the spring season.
These figures confirm that the 'Yashil Maqon' project has turned into a nationwide movement uniting the broad public, state organizations, local authorities, and citizens around a single noble goal.
When carrying out planting work, special attention is paid not only to quantitative indicators but also to the quality of the seedlings, their suitability for the region's soil and climatic conditions, and subsequent care. 1344 practical seminars on proper planting and seedling care according to agrotechnical requirements were organized in the regions.
Furthermore, 1022 seedling fairs were held to ensure stable prices for seedlings and provide the population with high-quality seedlings at affordable prices.
564 responsible employees are involved in monitoring planting, equipped with 526 tablets and 96 soil moisture measuring devices. This allows for monitoring afforestation work in every region based on digital technologies, analyzing the condition of planted seedlings, and forming accurate information.
Since planting is only the beginning of the process, the preservation and growth of trees constitute the main objective. Therefore, issues of watering, fertilization, shaping, and protection of each planted seedling from pests are under constant control within the project.
Work continues to be carried out to create new green zones, gardens, and public areas in regions to ensure convenient conditions for recreation and walks for the population.
On April 1, 2026, the President visited the 'Botanical Garden,' which is being created near Tashkent city in the Tashkent and Kibray districts. During this visit, he participated in a seedling planting event.
As part of this initiative, on the same day, nearly 21 thousand citizens planted 88 thousand ornamental and fruit trees and shrubs over an area of 168.5 hectares in the regions of the republic. In addition, local authorities, ministries, and departments created more than 50 'green gardens.'
At the initiative of the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change, large-scale landscaping work was carried out along the road leading to the Karkidon district of Fergana region, on two lanes. Over a total length of 7.1 kilometers, more than 7 thousand ornamental seedlings were planted, creating a modern 'green avenue.'
Such green avenues help reduce dust raised by roads, capture harmful substances emitted by vehicles, mitigate the impact of wind and noise, and improve the aesthetic appearance of the territory.
The effectiveness of afforestation measures is directly related to the preservation and care of planted seedlings. In this regard, working groups consisting of employees of the National Guard of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change have been launched.
Information about planted seedlings submitted by regional headquarters to the 'yashilmakon.eco' electronic platform is studied on-site by environmental inspectors and prosecutor's offices.
This system serves to ensure the accuracy of data on planted seedlings, timely identification of shortcomings, and increased accountability of relevant organizations.
The 'Mening Bogim' (My Garden) project is being implemented in the country to directly involve the population in afforestation work and support public initiatives.
Under this project, citizens can propose ideas for creating 'green gardens' and 'green public parks' in their districts through the 'Open Budget' information portal and vote for the most suitable proposals.
In 2024, 789 public initiatives were put forward, of which 212 were recognized as winners. 140.1 hectares of land were allocated for their implementation, and 128 'green gardens' and 84 'green public parks' were created.
In 2025, 570 projects were submitted to the 'Open Budget' portal. Based on the voting results, 156 projects were recognized as winners, for which a total of 104.9 hectares of land was allocated. Based on design and estimate documentation, 89 'green gardens' and 67 'green public parks' were created.
In 2026, 610 proposals were presented by the Ministry Council of the Karakalpakstan Republic, regional and city administrations under the 'Mening Bogim' project. Citizens voted on these initiatives a total of 152,200 times, with 97,400 votes going to the winning projects.
Following the vote, 208 winning projects were determined—one from each district and city. The state has allocated 52 billion sums for the implementation of these projects.
Currently, the 'Yashilloyiha' Design Institute is developing the corresponding design and estimate documents for the creation of 'green gardens' and 'green public parks' within the winning projects.
The 'Yashil Maqon' and 'Mening Bogim' projects serve the goal of ensuring the country's ecological sustainability, improving the appearance of cities and rural areas, protecting public health, and leaving a clean and prosperous home for future generations.
However, achieving these noble goals is not possible through the efforts of state structures alone. The protection, watering, and care of planted seedlings, as well as the protection of green areas, depend on the ecological culture and personal responsibility of every citizen.
Every planted tree means clean air, a healthy lifestyle, a prosperous community, and a prosperous future. Thus, the national project 'Yashil Maqon' is not just an afforestation event, but a long-term national program aimed at ensuring harmony between humans and nature.
Any contribution to greening, every preserved seedling, and every improved area is a solid foundation for the ecologically sustainable future of New Uzbekistan.
