The National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change has launched an investigation into an incident involving the uprooting and damage of trees in the Uzun forestry area in the Sangardak mahalla of the Sariasia district in the Surkhandarya region.
According to the agency's data, this incident was recorded on August 3, 2026. A working group was formed to clarify the circumstances, which included representatives from Eco-Police, the General Prosecutor's Office, the Khokimiyat of the Surkhandarya region, and the regional environmental department.
Preliminary information indicates that the work was carried out without the necessary permits, despite warnings from environmental protection officials. It was preliminarily established that 11 juniper trees of the Zarafshan variety, approximately 100 years old, were uprooted.
Currently, specialists are assessing the scale of the ecological damage, checking the compliance of construction work with environmental legislation, and identifying those involved in the violation. The National Committee on Ecology stated that the guilty parties will be held accountable according to the law after the investigation is complete, and further details on the results will be published later.
