L&T secures major order from ADNOC Offshore worth over 15,000 crore rupees

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) announced on Friday the signing of a six-year Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) framework agreement with Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), the country's largest oil and gas producer.

Participation in PDO Projects

L&T Energy Hydrocarbon Onshore has been selected as one of four EPC contractors who will participate in upcoming PDO projects for Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) and EPC. These projects are aimed at realizing future energy initiatives in Oman, as stated in the multinational conglomerate's exchange reporting.

The company stated that it will utilize its engineering and execution capabilities to support PDO's future needs. Furthermore, it affirmed its commitment to developing In-Country Value (ICV) in Oman. Larsen & Toubro (L&T) announced on Wednesday that its energy business division has signed a major Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract with Kuwait Oil Company (KOC). This order pertains to key export facilities for Jurassic Light Oil (JLO) and the modernization of the existing export network.

Contract Details and Scope of Work

L&T defines large orders as contracts valued between 5,000 and 10,000 crore rupees. This order includes the EPC of six new crude oil storage tanks, each designed for an operational capacity of 618,000 barrels, along with associated infrastructure delivered on a turnkey basis.

The project also involves installing new pipelines and comprehensively modernizing Kuwait's existing crude oil loading and export network. The objective of these works is to ensure the uninterrupted reception of increased production volumes and enhance the country's raw material processing capabilities.

PTC Industries announced on Thursday that it has signed a contract for design and development with the Defence Research and Development Organisation's (DRDO) Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE). Under this contract, the company is required to create a titanium skid for the 105mm Indian Light Tank, marking the company's transition into developing critical defense components based on design.

New Stage in Manufacturing

In an official notification, the company emphasized that this is the first time it will be involved in the design, development, testing, and production of a defense element, moving away from traditional 'build-to-print' contracts. The contract duration is 2.5 years, but its value has not been disclosed due to strategic and confidential considerations.

Functions of the Titanium Skid

According to regulatory filings, the titanium skid is a key structural element. It serves as a support for the main gun barrel and breech, accommodates the recoil mechanism, and transmits the firing force to the turret. This component is intended for the 105mm Indian Light Tank, which is being developed under the DRDO program for indigenous armored vehicles.

Significance for the Company and Industry

Chairman and Managing Director Sachin Agarwal called this contract a 'significant milestone.' He noted that it strengthens the company's capability to undertake more complex defense projects requiring both engineering expertise and advanced manufacturing. Agarwal added that, in his view, weight reduction will become increasingly important for tanks, artillery systems, and other ground defense platforms, and titanium alloys can play a key role in this process.

Titanium material is increasingly used in defense systems due to its high strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, and fatigue characteristics. These properties make it suitable for light armored vehicles operating in harsh conditions and at high altitudes. The company believes that the successful development of this component could open opportunities to supply similar lightweight titanium parts for tanks, artillery systems, and other ground defense platforms.

The project expands the company's integrated platform, 'PTC ONE – From Smelt to Mission,' adding competencies related to design to its existing capabilities in titanium materials, precision manufacturing, and system integration.
