Reports appeared on social media about large-scale tree felling on the territory of the Surkhandarya Scientific and Experimental Station in Denau. Specialists conducted an inspection and determined that the trees were not cut down but fell due to strong winds.
Inspectors from the Department of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change of the Surkhandarya region traveled to the site after publications appeared online. The examination of the area confirmed that the trees were uprooted as a result of strong winds.
According to experts, there were no signs of cutting on the trunks, and the root system was pulled out along with the soil, indicating a natural cause for the vegetation's fall. The department emphasized that information about deliberate tree felling was not confirmed.
Currently, cleanup work is underway in the ecopark area to remove fallen trees. These measures are necessary to maintain safety for visitors, clear pedestrian areas, and perform sanitary work.
Ecologists also appealed to citizens to trust only official data and refrain from hasty conclusions based on unconfirmed information from social media.
As additional context, it is mentioned that numerous old trees were previously removed in the capital, which were later replaced by lawns and young saplings; the authorities of Tashkent provided explanations regarding this situation.
As part of large-scale environmental inspections conducted in the capital and Tashkent region, ecological police inspectors recorded 48 violations of environmental legislation.
Most identified cases were related to illegal dumping of construction waste and tree felling. Environmental raids took place from May 19 to July 22. The checks covered the Yukorichchiksky, Kuyichchiksky, Zangiatin, and Kibray districts of the Tashkent region, as well as the Yangikhet, Yunusabad, and Sergeli districts of Tashkent.
Inspectors paid special attention to instances of illegal transportation and storage of construction waste in areas not designated for this purpose. Cases of illegal tree felling were also recorded. Violators used vehicles to transport waste and left it in prohibited areas.
Based on the inspections conducted, 48 administrative protocols were drawn up. The total amount of fines imposed on violators exceeded 316 million soms. During the inspections, it was established that some citizens were transporting construction waste in private vehicles and placing it in inappropriate locations.
Representatives of the ecological police emphasized that unauthorized waste disposal negatively affects the state of the environment and entails legal responsibility. It is reported that similar raids will continue. Previously, in Akhangaran, ecological police officers detained a person who was illegally hunting the mountain goat listed in the Red Book and attempting to sell the meat of this rare animal.
