The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) introduced an updated version of its MyCall application on Monday. The new version includes several features that allow users to rate voice calls using a five-star system, report connection failures, and share feedback after a call ends. This helps telecom operators and TRAI itself identify network issues and improve the services provided.
The application will track both service quality and user experience quality. Anil Kumar Lahoti, Chairman of TRAI, noted that customer feedback will serve as the basis for enhancing the quality of telecommunication services.
Details of the Application Features
Lahoti added that the application provides consumers with the ability to view their feedback history and conduct coverage tests. This data will be a useful contribution for telecom service providers when conducting targeted network optimization, which will improve the calling experience for users. The information collected through the application will allow TRAI to supplement its service quality monitoring system with feedback from actual consumers. Furthermore, the chairman emphasized that TRAI will not use data obtained through this application to impose any punitive measures on telecom operators.
The updated application, which underwent a comprehensive modernization for the first time since its launch in 2018, will be available to all users on Android devices. The feature for sharing feedback with telecom service providers is present in this version and was absent in the previous one.
According to officials, the update was prompted by technological advancements in both networks and devices themselves. Lahoti stated that consumer feedback will help operators identify network shortcomings and take corrective actions, thereby increasing customer satisfaction and overall mobile experience quality.
The new application continues the line of modernization of other TRAI applications, such as Do Not Disturb (DND) and MySpeed, which were released in February of this year. The goal of these updates was to reduce spam and unwanted calls and messages, as well as improve service quality. The DND app received a simplified interface, multilingual options, a reduced number of steps for filing a complaint, improved preference management, and more reliable support for dual-SIM phones. It also enabled the introduction of a series of 1600 numbers for financial institutions, allowing customers to see the sender's name in the app. Complaints filed by consumers through the application are directed to telecom companies via API integration.
