The refrigerator is today an integral part of the kitchen and home, as it is used to preserve food, whether it is breakfast or dinner. However, according to Vastu knowledge, improper placement or orientation of the refrigerator in the kitchen can disrupt the balance in the house, attracting negative energy and causing health problems. Vastu experts assert that the electricity, cold, and gas used in the refrigerator represent different elements, and their incorrect placement can lead to negative consequences.
According to Vastu teachings, the ideal place to install a refrigerator is the northwest corner, known as Vayavya Kona. Since this zone has the influence of air and water elements, placing the refrigerator here helps maintain positive energy in the dwelling. If the northwest corner is unavailable, it is permissible to place it in the southeast corner (Agni Kona).
From a Feng Shui perspective, to strengthen family understanding, harmonious relationships, and financial well-being, it is recommended to place the refrigerator in the west direction. For mental peace and stability, it can be placed in the southwest corner (Nairutya Kona).
The northeast corner (Ishan Kona) is traditionally considered the place of deities and a source of positive energy; therefore, large electronics or refrigerators should never be placed in this area, as it hinders the inflow of wealth and leads to financial losses.
Placing the refrigerator in the south direction is undesirable because the south is associated with the Yama direction and fire, whereas the function of the refrigerator is related to cooling (the element of water). The clash of these two elements can negatively affect the health of the household members and intensify unnecessary life conflicts.
It is crucial not to press the refrigerator directly against the wall; there must be a small gap of at least one or two inches between the appliance and the wall to ensure free air circulation and not disrupt the flow of energy. The refrigerator should also be protected from direct sunlight coming from windows or doors, as this not only accelerates equipment failure but also intensifies negative impact.
The refrigerator should not be placed near sources of fire, such as a stove, oven, microwave, or gas cylinder, as the combination of cold and fire is considered extremely unfavorable from a Vastu perspective. Furthermore, the refrigerator should not be positioned so that its door is immediately visible upon opening the main entrance to the house or kitchen.
Maintaining cleanliness and order in the refrigerator is very important: a dirty and disorganized refrigerator attracts quarrels and anxiety. It must be cleaned regularly both inside and out, avoiding the storage of long-spoiled or old food remnants, as this activates the negative influences of Rahu.
