Event promoter Vertex Events confirmed on Monday that Maxwell's shows scheduled for August 8th at SunBet Arena in Pretoria and August 11th at Grand Arena, GrandWest in Cape Town, were cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances outside the artist's control.
According to information from Vertex Events, Maxwell's management notified the company that the singer would no longer be able to travel to South Africa to participate in the concerts, despite attempts by both parties to find alternative solutions.
The promoter stated in a release: "Several options were explored between the Maxwell team and Vertex Events. Unfortunately, the only remaining option is to cancel the show," adding that the situation got out of control for both the organizers and the artist.
In a message to his South African fans, Maxwell expressed regret over the cancellation. He wrote: "Due to unforeseen circumstances beyond my control, I unfortunately cannot perform in South Africa as planned. This decision was not easy. I sincerely apologize to everyone who was looking forward to these shows. I appreciate your understanding and continued support. Hope to be with you again soon."
Vertex Events reported that significant efforts were made to postpone the concerts to 2026, but suitable dates could not be found due to unavoidable scheduling constraints.
The promoter also emphasized that neither party breached their contractual obligations, describing the relationship between the Maxwell team and Vertex Events as professional throughout the process.
Despite the disappointment of the situation, Vertex Events stated that Maxwell intends to return to South Africa and is already working with the promoter to determine new dates in 2027.
The company added that concert preparations were completed: venues were booked, and production logistics were finalized before what were expected to be completely sold-out shows.
Ticket holders will receive a full refund; it is expected that Webtickets will contact customers directly regarding the refund procedure.

The architectural bureau Aulets Arquitectes invites you to the screening of the short film 'Amarar', which will take place on Thursday, September 17, at 7:00 PM at Espacio Arquia de Madri (c/ Tutor, 16). The term 'Amarar' refers to a traditional Majorcan technique for wood treatment by immersing it in water to increase the material's durability.
This name also denotes a sustainable design project that transforms local pines into highly artistic modern furniture pieces. The project explores the use of wood in civil construction in collaboration with the Universitat de les Illes Balears. The project is initiated by Francisco Sifuentes and Sebastià Martorell, co-founders of the Aulets Arquitectes office located in Palma de Mallorca.
Sifuentes notes: 'On the islands, we have a large forest mass, but 95% of the forests are abandoned. At the same time, we import 70 thousand tons of wood for construction. We, as architects, must build using materials that can restore local ecosystems. A paradigm shift is necessary.'
