During the Angelus Sunday prayer, before the faithful gathered in St. Peter's Square in the Vatican, Pope Leo XIV reminded them that 'before the abundance of goods that spoil are the outstretched hands of those who have nothing to eat, and the ruined homes of those who lack peace,' according to a report by the Efe agency.
The Pope called for vacation time to also be a time of peaceful brotherhood, including those near us who live in need. He strongly urged people to pray to the Virgin Mary, the caring Mother, so that she might help them grow in mercy, ensuring that no one lacks daily bread.
He stated that 'nothing is lost when shared' and cited Jesus Christ and the miracle of mercy as examples.
Furthermore, the Pope warned, noting that 'accumulation and waste are two sides of the same evil: greed.' He emphasized that 'this sickness of the soul causes one to lose the meaning of things because it intoxicates with wealth, leading to the oblivion of those who cry from hunger and call out for water.'
This Sunday, Leo XIV again led the Angelus prayer from the Apostolic Palace in St. Peter's Square after returning from his summer retreat in Castel Gandolfo, where he had continued to hold this Sunday prayer.
