Rain expected in UAE until August 6 due to low atmospheric pressure from the east

Residents of the United Arab Emirates can expect clear or partly cloudy weather on Sunday, August 2. It is forecasted that clouds will begin to appear over the eastern regions of the country in the afternoon.

According to data from the National Center of Meteorology (NCM), conditions will remain generally favorable for most of the day, but cloud activity will increase in the eastern regions closer to the evening.

The wind will be light to moderate, blowing from the southeast, and then gradually shifting to the northwest. Wind speeds are expected to be between 10 and 20 km/h, occasionally increasing up to 35 km/h.

Sea conditions in the Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman will remain minor.

Earlier, on Friday, August 1, a temperature of 50°C was recorded in the UAE. The maximum temperature was registered in Al Shamawah, Abu Dhabi, at 14:30, according to the National Center of Meteorology (NCM).

This was the first instance of reaching the 50°C mark this summer in the UAE, while temperatures continue to rise over several days.

On August 2, a maximum temperature of 46°C is expected in Dubai and Sharjah, with minimums of 33°C and 31°C, respectively. The temperature range in Abu Dhabi will fluctuate between 32°C and 47°C.

The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) reported that cloud seeding operations were conducted in recent days when suitable clouds were detected, coinciding with the peak of current rainy weather in the UAE.

Causes and Purpose of Rainfall

Recent rains, influenced by the upper atmospheric dome, brought relief to various parts of the Emirates. Cloud seeding missions aim to enhance natural precipitation and increase the volume of droplets reaching the ground.

Weather Forecast

According to NCM, the current weather system will gradually weaken and shift south starting today. Nevertheless, residents should still expect cloud development in the afternoon in the eastern and western parts of the country.

Forecasters note the continued probability of rainfall, especially in the western region. By Friday, the upper atmospheric system will continue its movement southward, leading to an overall decrease in cloud cover across the Emirates. A slight chance of rain will persist, concentrated mainly in the Al Ain area.

Impact of High Temperatures

This period of rain occurred when temperatures in the UAE occasionally reached 50°C. Although rain during such extreme heat may seem unusual, experts explain that high temperatures promote the development of convective clouds due to increased surface heating.

However, intense heat alone is not sufficient for precipitation. The appearance of rain requires a combination of crucial atmospheric conditions, including sufficient humidity, the influence of moist air masses, upper atmospheric domes, atmospheric instability, and favorable wind patterns.

When these critical elements coincide with intense summer heat, cloud and precipitation development becomes possible, providing a brief respite from the scorching heat.

Recent Weather Events

The current period follows a series of convective weather events that passed over the UAE in recent days. On Wednesday, July 29, NCM issued an orange warning due to heavy rains, dust storms, and strong winds hitting Dubai and other parts of the country, with gusts reaching up to 50 km/h and reducing horizontal visibility in several places.

The day before, some parts of the eastern region, including Masafih and areas north of Al Ain, recorded rain and hail. The meteorological department also issued yellow warnings for dust storms and rain on July 28, as convective cloud activity continued to affect the country in the middle of summer.

General Meteorological Conditions

There is a possibility of convective cloud formation in the eastern and inland areas, while overall the weather will be moderately clear or partly cloudy.

Temperature and Humidity Regime

In Abu Dhabi, the air temperature will range from 31°C to 41°C, and in Dubai, it will fluctuate between 32°C and 40°C. The humidity level in both cities is forecast to be in the range of 35% to 80%.

Wind and Sea Conditions

Light to moderate winds are expected to blow from the southeast or northwest at speeds of 10 to 25 km/h, with the possibility of reaching 45 km/h. NCM added that if the wind strengthens to fresh or strong, it may cause dust lifting. The sea in the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea will be calm.
