Indian boxer Priti Pawar demonstrated outstanding performance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, Scotland, winning a gold medal.
In the final of the women's boxing 54 kg weight category, Priti Pawar competed against Scarlett Delgado from Canada. Pawar acted aggressively from the beginning of the fight. In the second round, all five judges awarded points to Priti with a score of 10-9, allowing her to take the lead with a score of 20-18. Furthermore, Delgado received a knockdown in the second round, which completely put the fight under Pawar's control even before the last round. In the three rounds, Priti scored 10 points each, winning the match with a score of 5-0.
Priti's success story was quite extraordinary. After being eliminated in the preliminary quarter-finals at her first Youth World Championship in 2023, she did not give up. In the same year, she won a bronze medal at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, which was a strong comeback and also secured her spot in the Paris Olympics. However, shortly before the Olympics, she contracted hepatitis A.
Despite the negative impact of the illness on her preparation, she showed resilience and advanced to the 16th round of the Olympic Games. Even during this difficult period, she maintained discipline in sports. Upon returning after a long break following the Paris Olympics, Priti displayed an impressive performance in the ring. In 2025, she won gold medals at the World Boxing Cup final and the Asian Championship, as well as a silver medal at the Boxum Elite International tournament held in Spain.
The Asian Championship title became a significant stimulus for boosting her self-confidence in preparation for the Asian Games. It is worth noting that Priti, known for her aggressive style in boxing, leads a very calm lifestyle outside the ring. She uses meditation to maintain her mental health.
