Desi ghee is an integral part of Indian cuisine and is used not only in food but also in skincare. Some people prepare fresh desi ghee at home, while others buy it packaged. A common problem arises when extracting desi ghee from jars or bottles when it hardens at the bottom or in the corners.
Sometimes the desi ghee sticks so firmly to the container corners that it cannot be removed even with a spoon. This causes concern for people who do not know how to extract it. Some try putting it in hot water, while others heat the plastic bottles directly on the stove, which damages the bottle itself and does not help remove the ghee.
It is especially difficult when a small amount of ghee remains in the container, and attempts to retrieve it result in most of it staying inside. Instead of throwing away the remaining ghee, there is a simple method that allows you to quickly and effortlessly extract the stuck ghee.
The main characteristic of desi ghee is that it melts at an elevated temperature and then solidifies again upon cooling. This property can be used to easily extract ghee stuck to the container.
If desi ghee has stuck to a plastic bottle or any other container, first place it in the refrigerator for some time. Upon cooling, the ghee will harden well. After this, all the hardened ghee can be easily removed by gently pressing on the container or carefully pulling it out from the edges.
If the bottle neck is small, after the ghee has hardened, instead of shaking the container upside down abruptly, use a clean spoon or spatula to carefully lift it from the edges. This way, the ghee will come out easily, leaving minimal amount in the container.
Instead of throwing away a small amount of ghee left in the container, it can be extracted using this trick and reused. This helps reduce food waste, and even a small portion will be useful.
When storing the container with ghee in the refrigerator, ensure it is clean and tightly sealed with a lid. Always use a clean and dry spoon when extracting. It is also recommended to store desi ghee exclusively in glass jars, as this eliminates any difficulties in extraction and prevents the loss of even the smallest amount of ghee.
