The number of fatalities during the mass border crossing in Ceuta has increased, reaching 57 people. This figure is added to 30 migrants found dead since the beginning of the year until Wednesday.
According to data collected by Spanish news agencies Europa Press and EFE, the total number of migrants found dead on the coast of Ceuta after drowning while attempting to cross the border from Morocco is now 87.
Security forces and emergency services continue to find bodies of people who rushed into the sea from the Moroccan coast of Castillejos, trying to reach the coast of Ceuta on foot.
Authorities do not rule out that the number of victims may continue to rise in the coming hours.
The president of the municipal government of Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivás, estimated today that 60,000 migrants entered the city in recent hours, while the Spanish government indicates around 50,000.
