The Spanish financial group Bankinter announced that it achieved profits of 605 million euros during the first half of the year, representing a 12% increase compared to the same period in 2025.
Overall financial results
The result before tax reached 853 million euros, which constitutes an advance of 11.4% compared to the first six months of the previous year. This announcement was formally presented by the CNMV of Spain.
Performance in Portugal
In Portugal, where Bankinter has operated since 2016, the profit before taxes totaled 114 million euros, an increase of 9% compared to the first half of 2025. The bank's operation in Portugal contributed 13.4% to the group's global results.
Bankinter highlighted that Portugal is the second most relevant geography in terms of revenue and turnover, showing quite positive evolution. In that market, the gross margin, which includes all revenues, grew by 10% compared to the first half of 2025.
Portuguese market indicators
Operational data in Portugal showed that the credit portfolio expanded by 8%, reaching 11.5 billion euros. Resources from retail customers increased by 12%, totaling 15 billion euros, while the securities custody portfolio rose by 29%, reaching 6 billion euros.
Global view and margins
Globally, the bank attributed its 'solid results' in the first half of the year to the increase in turnover with customers and the diversification of revenue sources, highlighting commercial dynamism in all geographical areas and activities.
Bankinter's gross margin grew by 7.3% compared to the first half of 2025, totaling 1.603 billion euros. This growth was driven by the good performance of commissions, with the group registering 548 million euros in 'fees received', an increase of 15.5%.
Credit and Mortgages
The credit portfolio granted by the group increased by 4.6% in the same period, reaching 87.153 billion euros, and total assets amounted to 140.933 billion euros, an increase of 7%. Although mortgage production continued to grow in Portugal and Ireland, new credit granting fell globally by 16% in the first half due to the situation in the Spanish market.
The total amount of the Bankinter group's mortgage portfolio grew by 3% during the period, totaling 39 billion euros. Additionally, Bankinter's interest margin increased by 5.4%, reaching 1.160 billion euros. Return on equity (ROE) stood at 19.1%, higher than the 18.9% recorded at the end of 2025. Finally, Bankinter registered profits of 1.090 billion euros in 2025, a growth of 14.4% compared to 2024.
